SAP Note Viewer for iPad

Firstly, thanks to everyone for the support of the SAP Note Viewer for iPhone of this app, users have really been growing steadily since its release and as of yesturday we had around 925 users. Feedback has been great and some really awesome ideas are coming from  the community.

The app is currently in the App Store and can be found here.

The app has the same features as the iPhone version which have been listed below, but the ipad really is considerably better for viewing the notes than the phone.

I dont anticipate the app to do as well just due to the number of iPads versus iPhones in the market, but hopefully it will make a select few peoples lives just a little bit easier. (My intention!) read more

SAP Note Viewer for iPhone

Well, its been an interesting few months with the XCode platform and learning Objective C was interesting, but I am glad to announce my side project has been released and is available in the Apple App Store. The free app is called SAP Note Viewer for iPhone and is just that … a SAP OSS Note viewer which allows people to search for and download the notes and store them on their iPhone/iPad in PDF format.

The app also allows you to share the note details via email and mark specific notes as “Favorites” for easy reference.

Since this is Version 1, my intention is to simply get the ball rolling and hope for some feedback from the community to get some ideas on where it should go and what functionality everyone would like to see. read more

2011 SAP Demojam Ideas

These were my SAP TechEd (which includes Demojam) ideas for 2011:

  • iPad app which uses its indoor location and mapping, uses the camera and an augmented reality overlay to tag items inside a warehouse with live tags based on a picklist. As each item is marked as picked, the next line item shows up using a “radar” style map and informs the warehouse driver where they should navigate next.
    • Develop it using multiple cheap wifi routers? using signal strength? and a mesh like network
SAP ERP integration with a Segway for material handling. Show camera on front showing an augmented view of the warehouse with a 3D overlay.

How secure is your enterprise data?

A couple of months ago, we had an emergency meeting with our process control engineers concerned by the announcement of the “Stuxnet” virus, which targeted Siemens PLC’s. For those of you who don’t know what a PLC is, it’s essentially a PC used in industrial operations to control machinery on a production line, AC Systems, elevators and even used in amusement park rides, to name a few. Unlike a regular PC with a couple inputs (mouse/keyboard etc.) and outputs (display), generally PLC’s have hundreds of real-time input and output possibilities and often control physical objects like motors, actuators, hydraulics and solenoids. The target of the virus has not been confirmed, but after much speculation it was thought that it was targeting Irans nuclear power program. In a nut shell this virus has the ability to change process parameters and possibly cause major havoc. (Imagine overriding the temperature cut off controls in a reactor?).  read more

About Me

This was my first introduction post to the SAP Community back in 2010. It was a great relationship and I met a ton of wonderful folks in the enterprise space. In terms of opportunity it was probably the equivalent of Github in more recent times.

So, since it’s my first blog here on SDN I decided that I would share some of my background and where I come from, where I am, and, where I hope to be some day.

Lets start at the beginning, I was born in a small town called East London, South Africa in 1980, attended a couple local schools and found my interest for computers digging through left over PC components at my fathers business. Since putting the components together did not quite represent Jonny from the movie “Short Circuit”, my interested turned to software programming at the tender age of 13, which happened accidentally. In my pursuit for i386 memory I purchased a copy of “Computer Shopper” magazine which included Visual Basic 3.0 – along with a few tutorials. From there it was a downward spiral. read more

Every Saturday

In 2007 I was really interested in shooting video and loved the creative process, angles and technology. With DSLR’s having HD video, and the ability to use nice photography lenses for video really had my attention. This was a “short” film I made over a weekend using a new camera at the time.

DIY: IGUS Slider for Timelapse and Long Exposure Photography

This was a fun project using a Arduino, a sliding rail and belt to pull a sled with a DSLR on it for taking long exposure photography, video or long exposures. This was mounted on a Tripod for some additional stability and flexibility.
