Phillips 66

I had a nice opportunity to present some offer internal IT work we were doing at SAP, with the oil giant, Phillips 66. It was a great conversation sharing what, where and how we are deploying SAP BTP, apps and mobile solutions to help our company and its employees be successful. Here are a few slides and key take aways from the meeting.

Personality Traits?

Did you know that heredity is the most dominant factor in your personality? An intriguing example of this is the “Jim Twins”:

One example of the amazing similarity of twins reared apart is the so-called “Jim twins”. These twins were adopted at the age of four weeks. Both of the adopting couples, unknown to each other, named their son James. Upon reunion of the twins when they were 39 years old, Jim and Jim have learned that:

  • Both twins are married to women named Betty and divorced from women named Linda.
  • One has named his first son James Alan while the other named his first son James Allan.
  • Both twins have an adopted brother whose name is Larry.
  • Both named their pet dog “Toy.”
  • Both had some law-enforcement training and had been a part-time deputy sheriff in Ohio.
  • Each did poorly in spelling and well in math.
  • Each did carpentry, mechanical drawing, and block lettering.
  • Each vacation in Florida in the same three-block-long beach area.
  • Both twins began suffering from tension headaches at eighteen, gained ten pounds at the same time, and are six feet tall and 180 pounds.

    Mac App: SAP Note Viewer

I ported the SAP Note Viewer iOS app over to the Mac desktop to see how it would do and with close to 600 downloads, I would not call it much of a success. It was the first Mac app I have developed and gave me a nice understanding of the differences between developing for the desktop vs mobile in the Apple ecosystem.

Here is a screenshot of the app running on my desktop.

    Human Behavior in Organizations

This was one of my first, and most enjoyable classes during my MBA at UNCC … We only had to read a portion of the book, but I enjoyed it so much I read it cover to cover. (Essentials of Organizational Behavior, 13th edition).

Behavioral knowledge and skills essential to becoming an effective manager/leader including behavior and motivation in an environment of complexity and rapid change and ethical implications of actions and their effects on demographically diverse and increasingly international work force.

The major objective of this course is to improve your effectiveness as a manager by providing you with a foundation of knowledge in topics including motivation, leadership, personality, and managing teams and to develop your ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of managerial problems. This course thus blends readings grounded in solid theory and research, class discussions focusing on real-world cases, examples from the popular business press, and exercises focusing on specific skills. An evidence-based approach to understanding and improving workplace health, well-being, and effectiveness, from an organizational behavior perspective, is emphasized. read more
