Travel: British Virgin Islands

Another year of last minute travel booking – this time somewhat justified by me switching jobs. We had the difficult decision of Islands (Caribbean), Hawaii, West Coast or Europe. Italy was on the short list for the longest time, but due to some scheduling, the crowd anticipation, and the associated expense, we decided to do something closer to home and an adventure/island vacation was on the cards. Some ideation using Claude, we decided to conservatively dip our toes into doing a catamaran vacation exploring islands. Just 2 nights on a boat and 3 nights on land was the plan. I know I get seasick and due to that, I was very nervous that it was going to be a living hell on a boat for 6 days. We booked a casual charter to explore the British Virgin Islands, and then a subsequent 3 nights on a quiet area on the north east side of Tortola .called Long Bay.

Just 1 week before we left, the charter called and they recently had a small accident and due to this could not accommodate us. After doing some searching for alternatives, we simply extended the house for a few more days …

The house wasn’t hard to enjoy, the view my stunning and aside from evening sun rays belting straight into the living room, once the sun had dipped, it was beautiful.

BVI is special … it’s very rustic, quiet, driving is crazy with all the steep hills and windy roads. All in paradise. In lieu of staying on a catamaran, we spent 2 days island touring and hopping on a boat, visiting islands such as Virgin Gorda and Jost van Dyke.

Out of all the Caribbean islands we have visited, this was by far the best snorkeling. Kate and I also had a fun small adventure swimming out to a set of rocks a good distance off the beach to explore at Long Bay.

Traveling home was unique – from Tortola to Miami was just fine, but our flight fro Miami to Charlotte was late in the evening, 7pm, then 9pm, then midnigt and eventually cancelled due to a plane issue at 1am. We got to a hotel at 2am, and needed to be awake again around 5am to get back to the airport at 7 🙁
